Writing people/Community fans/narrative theory buffs! If you want more background on Dan Hamron’s whole “story circle” structure for good character development (and, having now used it, I can confirm that it works pretty darn well), here’s a series of tutorials the man himself wrote about it:
- Story Structure 101: Super Basic Shit
- Story Structure 102: Pure, Boring Theory
- Story Structure 103: Let’s Simplify Before Moving On
- Story Structure 104: The Juicy Details
There’s more on the Channel 101 wiki that’s specific to TV writing, too. Fascinating, funny, useful stuff.
Though there are still a few Community episodes left to air this season, “Intro to Felt Surrogacy” was shot as 4.13, the season’s finalepisode and perhaps the series finale, should NBC choose not to renew it. The show has never been known for Chuck Lorre style vanity cards at the end of episodes, but the message on the chalkboard that week, coupled with the “behind-the-scenes” tag ending with a group photo seems to be a neat and tidy good-bye from the cast and crew “just in case.”
To me, this makes that episode so much more special, though it still bums me out that there is no season-long thread, and certainly no care for continuity, in the way the network is airing these episodes.
“I’m sorry, you should take some credit for who I’ve become. So let me tell you how I turned out, just so you’re crystal clear on your impact. I am not well adjusted… more often than not, I am barely keeping it together. I’m constantly texting, and there is no one at the other end. I’m just a grown man, who can’t even look his own friends in the eye for too long, because I’m afraid that they’ll see that I am broken. So you get credit for that…”
The North Cafeteria, named after Admiral William North, is located in the western portion of East Hall, gateway to the western half of North Hall, which is named, not after William North, but for its position above the South Wall.
It is the most contested and confusing battlefield on Greendale’s campus, next to the English Memorial Spanish Center, named after English Memorial, a Portuguese sailor that discovered Greendale while looking for a fountain that cured syphilis.
and this is the best joke Community has ever done and will ever do.
